Add page numbers to a PDF
Number every page at the bottom, with the position and format you choose.
How it works
- Drop the PDF to number (max 10 MB on Free, 200 MB on Premium).
- Pick where the number sits (bottom centered, right or left) and the format (Page X of N or just the number).
- Click Add page numbers. Every page gets a number at the bottom, and you download the new PDF.
Position and format
The number is drawn at the bottom of each page, 24 pt above the bottom edge, in Helvetica size 10 — discreet enough not to clash with your layout while staying legible in print. You choose one of three positions: bottom centered (the default), bottom right or bottom left.
Two formats are available. Page X of N writes the current page and the total (for example 3 / 12), which is handy for reports, contracts and dissertations where the reader needs to know the length. X only writes the page number on its own, for a cleaner look. Numbering starts at 1 and covers every page of the document.
What it does not change
The tool only adds a number layer at the bottom of each page. It never reflows your text, re-encodes images or alters the existing content — the rest of the page stays byte-for-byte the same, and the operation is PDF → PDF with no conv2pdf watermark added.
If a page already has a number printed inside its own content, that number stays where it is: the tool can't detect or remove it, so the new number is added on top. For a clean result, run it on a PDF that isn't numbered yet.
Privacy and security
The entire operation runs on our servers in France (OVH Gravelines). No US third party is involved in the process — no CDN, no storage, no tracker. Your PDFs are never indexed, analyzed or inspected.
The source PDF and the numbered PDF are deleted after one hour. If you create a share link, a copy of the PDF is kept for the period you chose (up to 7 days on Free and 30 days on Premium). You can delete the share (and therefore the PDF) at any time. conv2pdf is GDPR-compliant, and a DPA is available on request for professional use.
Frequently asked questions
Can I start numbering at a different value or skip the cover page?
Not yet. The current version starts at 1 and numbers every page. A start offset and the ability to skip the cover page are planned — for now, remove the cover beforehand if you don't want it counted.
Can I choose where the number goes?
Yes, at the bottom: centered, right or left. Top positions (headers), custom margins, sizes and colors aren't available in this version.
Is there a limit on the number of pages?
The PDF can have up to 2,000 pages. Beyond that, the file is rejected — split it first if needed.
Will the page numbers be selectable text?
Yes. Each number is real text (Helvetica), not an image, so it stays sharp at any zoom and can be searched or copied like the rest of the document.
